The BSLi project was officially launched on October 1, 2019 with an educational Grand Rounds presentation to faculty, residents, and staff. Since the launch date, we have seen an improved rate of high-quality photos across all UCSF Department of Dermatology clinical sites.

Currently, photos that fail to reach the high-quality threshold lack correctly marked biopsy site lesions.

Quality improvement is a structured process which involves iterative data collection, data analysis and testing change. As such, the following interventions are our next steps to improve rates of high-quality photos:

  • February 2020: Providing individualized feedback to providers about their practices
  • March 2020: Revising and standardizing marking pen accessibility in clinic spaces
  • March 20th: Update on project process at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado
